With the discovery of how effective social media has become for business, every small business should have a presence on social media. However, how many times have you went to a business page that just has it all wrong?

How a business handles their social media plays a major role in their brand identity, therefore is very important to the overall success of the business. Here are some notes on proper social media etiquette based on 3 of the most common business page mistakes.

1. It is not your personal page.

A companies business page is not the place to tell how your personal weekend was or to tell everybody your relationship issues. People come to your page to get information about your business not to see how you are doing. That is what your personal page is for.

2. Inactivity

If people are coming to a page to see what's going on with the business, what happens when they see nothing? That's right, the consumer assumes there is nothing going on with the business. A lot of them stop following the business page. We all get busy managing our business, but a business page should have daily activity.

3. Airing Out Dirty Laundry In Public

One negative thing about social media is that a company can not control a consumer from leaving negative comments on the page. However, the company can control how they handle those comments. The comments can be deleted. The consumer can be contacted through DM to discuss their issue with the company. NEVER EVER should a company get into a back and forth screaming match with a consumer online. Other potential consumers are watching and judging your customer service.

These are just a few yet important mistakes that we see made daily. Just as anything when it comes to running a business if you are not 100% sure you know the ins and outs of what you are doing, leave it to the professionals.
